Happy New Year!

OOPS!  This is the letter and pictures from last week!

Happy New Year Everyone!
This week was a little funny because our bathroom was under construction  for more than half of it, and they're not even done quite yet. We are so grateful for the ASL Sisters for being willing to take us in for a couple of nights so we could use their shower. It was a lot of fun to hang out with them too!

Favorite Scripture:
Romans 5:5-8
"5 ... the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.
8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."
I read this and immediately thought of the hymn "I Stand All Amazed." Each of us has made mistakes. Each of us contributed to the pain that our Savior felt in the Garden of Gethsemane. And yet, he still loves us anyway. He loves us enough to carry out the Atonement, even though we are sinners, so that we could have the opportunity to become saints. Through Christ, we can have the strength to become better and cane become more like Him.

Favorite Miracle:
We were in Plummer Park the other day, doing language study, and on our way out, we wanted to talk to a few people. We go there quite often because there actually are a ton of Russian-speakers who hang out there, but usually they're too busy playing chess to want to talk to us. While we were walking, I saw this guy near us and said "здравствуйте" (It's pronounced "zdravstvuitye" and means "hello"). I don't think I even said it on purpose (honestly it was probably the Spirit). But he immediately said it back and started talking to me in Russian. I just looked at Sister Howard, who jumped in. This man, Vlad, was surprised when he found out I actually don't speak Russian, but that didn't stop him from agreeing to meet with us the next morning. We (Sister Howard actually ; ) we're able to teach him most of the restoration!

Other stuff:
There was a night this week where, in the course of three stop-by attempts, we drove in circles for a total of two and a half hours looking for parking, including the time needed to drive to the places. That seems like a total waste, but in LA, sometimes it's the reality. ; ) I have gained a new appreciation for the wide streets of Utah, the lack of parking regulations, and the tiny population . ; )

Got to go!
Love,
Sister Garfield

We went to an art museum last P-day. These are some of the fun things we saw (that they would let us take pictures of, haha).
