Trust in the Lord and Go and Do
Hey!
I hope that everyone
had a great Thanksgiving! We had the chance to have dinner with a family in our
ward, along with the Elders, together. It was pretty fun!
Favorite Miracle:
Until recently, most
of us were advised to do some of our studies at night since it isn't
necessarily the safest thing ever to be out in the dark in some of the areas of
our mission (ie, Compton). However, just last week there was a change in
missions on the West Coast to allow us to spend all of our time from 5-9pm out
finding and teaching people. At first some of us were a little skeptical about
the details of the change and the ability to find people (safely) when it's
super dark outside. But we have seen so many little miracles from it already!
Just since Monday, we have talked to Giovanne, Gary, Simon, Jorge, Zach,
Larissa, Karl, Trevor, and Dariya all after dark, most of which were on the
streets between walking to people who we were stopping by. And those are just
the ones whose names I remember, who we were able to invite to do something. It
has been super cool to have more freedom to allow us to actually be out when
people are home from work! People have actually been commenting on it, asking
why we're out so late, and we just tell them that we know we have the Lord on
our side, and that He protects us when we do what He asks of us.
Favorite Spiritual
Moment:
This was more of a
spiritual comment than anything else, but our landlord randomly showed up last
week to measure the window in our bathroom so they can do some repairs, and she
said something I thought was really cool. We live in kind of a sketchier part of
our area (sorry Mom ; ), and the landlord was talking about how the apartment
itself didn't use to have all that great of people in it. Earlier, she had
talked about how she never knew who was going to be in our apartment because we
move around so much as missionaries, but she seemed to be fine with it, and I
guess this comment explained why. She said something like "ever since you
guys (meaning all the missionaries who have lived in this apartment) showed up,
you've just shined your spotlight of goodness on us all and made us do the
right thing." It was kind of cool to hear. She's not a member, and I just
thought it was awesome that she recognized that the Spirit was here in her
complex, even if she didn't know what it was.
Other Stuff:
You know you're in
Hollywood when David Archuleta randomly shows up at your sacrament meeting to
sing a musical number. Yep. That happened yesterday. ; )
Wishing everyone the
best,
Love,
Sister Garfield
There are Lots of pictures this week (yay! since we didn't get any last week!)
