Hello Hollywood!

Hey everybody!
Hollywood is freaking crazy, man!
So, I very much believe that a big part of why I got sent here is because, if I ever do meet someone famous, it won't phase me. I probably won't even know who they are, haha. But I just want to make things very clear: no one should ever think of Hollywood as being glamorous. If you're going to use a word that starts with a "g" to describe it, I would use "gross" instead. ; ) But that means it's pretty great for the work! There are so many people here! They're all super crazy, but that means they're also pretty fun, haha.

Favorite Scripture:
Alma 37:44. I thought this was a super interesting comparison, because one would think that it would be super easy to follow a straight path, as easy as it would be to follow a compass north. But as we learn from Laman and Lemuel, sometimes it can actually be really hard to do that. This world is crazy. Life is crazy. It can be confusing, and sometimes other paths off to the side seem a little more appealing. But if we keep focused and keep heading forward, on the straight path, towards Jesus Christ, it really can be that simple.

Favorite funny moment:
My new companion, Sister Howard, speaks Russian, and so do the other Elders in our ward, so I am the only one who has not been assigned to speak that language. That doesn't mean I won't try to learn it though. We've been doing language study most days, and I've been making slug-like progress, but it's still a little progress. Sister Howard says that I have a really weird, thick accent, and I think half the problem is because I'm trying to pronounce everything the way you would say it in Spanish, haha. But by the end of the week, I can somewhat-safely say that I have learned, generally, what most of the letters sound like, so I can read, very slowly, I just can't understand any of it.
The funny thing was this: I was in the shower, thinking about the few Russian words that I know, but then when trying to put together anything I could possibly say, all I could come up with was Spanish phrases. So then I had Spanish going through my head, when I got this Italian opera song mixing in with it that we had randomly listened to in the car. And then all the sudden, I found myself relaying the words to Jabberwocky, by Lewis Carroll. So basically, my brain is super confused right now by all the random snippets of languages going on and just thinks it's all nonsense. It's pretty great. ; )

I've got to go. But I hope that you all have a super awesome week!
Love,
Sister Garfield

I'll miss you Sister Jenkins!

First morning with Sister Howard! We were on a walk and saw that we happen to live right next to a studio or something. So this one, stage nine, is because I'm on my ninth transfer.

This one is because Sister Howard is on her third.

Making brownies on Halloween!

And eating them. ; )
