Miracles Galore

Hey everybody!
I hope you all have had a great week! This one was an interesting one for me. We had zone conference this week, combined with a few of the LA zones, and it was sure interesting! It did help us to pick up on a few more of the rules and culture points though. Hopefully things continue to smooth out as we combine more. But most of the LA missionaries seem pretty cool. It should be good to get the chance to work with them pretty soon.

Favorite Scripture:
Mosiah 16:6-9, especially verse 9. I love how it talks about the Atonement of Jesus Christ in these verses and why it's so important. I think that the comparison to light in verse 9 is really great, because that's exactly what Christ is: an example to each of us.

Favorite Miracle:
First off, Sister Trujillo and I are convinced that Jason is going to be able to get baptized in a couple of weeks! We had a couple of really good lessons with him this week, and there is just so much light about him. It is really cool to see the change of heart that he has had. He is still working through some stuff - his family doesn't believe him about a few things, so he's working on earning their trust - but he's just so amazing. His interview is going to be this week! We're super excited. I very much feel like Jason is one of the people I was sent here for. Even though it's a bit stressful at times, it has been so amazing to watch him progress.
Also, I just want to testify that I know that the gift of tongues is real! I'm not even called to speak a language on this mission, but I know that when someone really needs it, the Lord is prepared to help us to talk to people in the language they can understand. My Spanish is not that great, guys. I know more than a lot of Sisters out here, but it's still not that great. But it always seems like whenever we come across someone who speaks Spanish who is really interested, the Spirit has helped me to get the point across. We were able to send the Hermanas in our area two awesome referrals this week!

Favorite Fun Thing:
One hot afternoon at the end of the week, we were walking up to this door when a van driving by stopped and the man inside asked us if we wanted a free popsicle. We had heard his speaker blasting "free ice cream," but he was a few streets away, and we didn't think we had time to go find him. But then he found us! We enjoyed those free popsicles for sure. It was so nice of him! What a cool, simple miracle.

Other stuff:
Service is a really incredible thing. We got to do a few more service projects than usual this week, and it just really helped to raise our spirits. If any of you are struggling right now, I would encourage you to find someone you can help, and then work really hard in doing it. It may wear you out, but you will feel so much better afterwards. I know that service really works!
Another thing that really works is fasting! I've randomly had a lot of opportunities to fast these past couple of weeks (don't worry, I'm not going anorexic or anything, haha), and it's been really humbling. Lately, we've been sharing Alma 6:6 with a lot of our members and have been inviting them to fast for those people in our area who are searching for the gospel. Apparently a few members of the ward council had been doing that a little while ago, and then we found the Alfarros! Whatever your need is, whether it's that you're looking for people to teach, searching for a way to have the Spirit with you more, or seeking for healing for you or for someone else, I know that fasting is a blessing. It brings miracles!

I love you guys and hope everyone has a really awesome week!
Love,
Sister Garfield

This is a notice announcing that someone is going to be filming on a street near our apartment. It's actually kind of funny how often traffic patterns are interrupted by movies out here.
