Good Morning!
Good morning everybody!
I hope you all are so happy! This week was a really good one in a lot of ways, but there were also a couple of weird things that happened. It makes things interesting, that's for sure. ; )
Favorite scripture:
Helaman 5:7. Helaman was talking to his sons, Nephi and Lehi, and telling them why they had the names they did: so they could look to the example of those great prophets and go about doing good. They later became great missionaries. He said, "Therefore, my sons, I would that ye should do that which is good, that it may be said of you, and also written, even as it has been said and written of them." We liked this because Helaman knew his sons had great potential, just like our Heavenly Father knows that each of us does. Each of us has the potential to do incredible things, and to help so many people. As missionaries, our job is to help people to come closer to Christ, but a lot of the time, those people help us to come closer to Him too. It's just really cool.
Favorite spiritual moment:
Sister Trujillo and I are so blessed to be teaching the Alfaro family. There are eleven of them, nine of whom we get to teach, and seven of whom will be getting baptized (the dad is already a member, and the other one is only seven years old). It has been so cool to get to be around them and to be a part of helping their family to be together forever. We were able to officially pick up a few more of them as investigators this week, when we had a lesson about temples and families for the four whose baptisms are coming up the closest. It was the cutest/coolest thing to watch Brother and Sister Alfaros's reactions to what we were teaching. When we told them that in the temple, they can be married for forever and that they can have an eternal family, Sister Alfaro just looked over at Brother Alfaro with a big, sweet smile on her face. It was so sweet. She has only had like two lessons so far, but she is already so excited to get to go to the temple. Apparently Brother Alfaro started talking to her about it just a little while ago. It makes them so happy, and it's making us so happy too. : ) I love the gospel! Man are we so lucky to have the priesthood on the earth.
Favorite funny moment:
For those of you who don't now, missionary appliances and kitchen tools aren't all that fantastic. The can openers in my last apartment were just sad. ; ) I hadn't had too much trouble with the ones here, but that's probably because I haven't been using any of the fancy ones. Sister Trujillo has been trying to make smoothies lately though, and our blender suffers and just about dies every time. Like, the blades barely even spin. One night this week, she was cleaning the blender and stabbed her finger with the top of the blade. Her reaction was just really funny. First she tried to figure out how to get it to stop bleeding, and she just shouts "If I release the pressure, I'll bleed out!" But what was better was just how upset she got with the blender. She goes, "Ah, come on! It can't be that sharp. It can't even cut my fruit; how could it cut my hand?!"
Other stuff:
I was on exchanges this week and Hermana Stickel and I got to have a pretty random but cool service activity. We were walking over to do a stop by, but while we were going, we saw this lady in a wheel chair trying to push the wheels of her chair and a shopping cart full of laundry at the same time. We asked if we could help her, and she said yes and asked us to push the cart across the street for her. When we did so, she then asked if we were heading that same direction (it was actually the exact opposite way we were going, but who cares), and we said that we'd be happy too, so she asked us if we could push her up the street a couple of blocks to the laundromat. It was really random, but it was a really cool thing.
While we were on that exchange, Sister Trujillo and Hermana Giles (Hermana Stickel's companion) found out that the investigator the Hermanas were passing off to us is actually engaged to an excommunicated member. Oh boy, this one is going to be interesting. ; ) Why is it that every investigator we get from Spanish missionaries has to be unusual? ; ) I don't think I've mentioned this investigator before, so don't go wondering who it is or anything like that, but we'll see where this goes. It should be good. Here we go!

Our investigator Emilio was in Utah this week, and he freaking loved it! It was so cute - he was sending us updates about getting to go to temple square stuff. He's so awesome. I can't wait for his baptism on Saturday!!
I love you all!
Love,
Sister Garfield
There were no pictures this week, we will just have to enjoy hearing from her this week!!
