We are All Children of God, no matter What

Hey everybody! Again, just a quick reminder that next week, our P-day is the 16th. I hope you all enjoy Martin Luther King Jr. Day! Favorite Scripture/Quote: "Remember that faith and doubt cannot exist in the same mind at the same time - for one will dispel the other." -President Thomas S. Monson. Just a quick shout out to our beloved prophet: President Monson was an amazing man. I'm happy for him that he gets to be with his wife again. May we all look to his example of service and of acting on the promptings of the Spirit. Favorite Spiritual Moment: We came in contact with this part-member family (we call them goldmines in this mission) a few weeks ago that we've gone back to see a few times since. The inactive member is named Carol, and she and her daughters are amazing. When we first met Carol, she told us that her family is basically atheist now, but she let us in to show her girls that there are good people who are members of the church (she ha...

Skyping, Christmas and New Years

Hey everybody! It's been a while! Sorry, holidays are weird on a mission. Favorite Quote/Scripture: During my personal study a couple of days ago, I was reading in Mosiah 27 when Alma the Younger and the sons of Mosiah are visited by an angel. I thought it was really interesting that, after falling to the ground, Alma is commanded to arise and stand as the angel rebukes him for the things he's been doing. It made me think of the verse in Alma 5 when Alma asks how any of us will feel when we have to stand before the bar of God stained with our sins. He is warning us about it in Alma 5 because he has experienced it, and it was awful. No wonder he had a change of heart! It's cool to think that not only does God care about us, but His prophets do too. Alma knows what that feels like and doesn't want any of us to have to go through it. We were on an exchange last week and the Sister I was with had a really cool song that I wish I knew the title of. It was by Nas...

Hey Guys

Image
Hey guys! Honestly, I don't even know what happened this week. I've found that mission life does that. ; ) What the heck? ; ) Favorite Spiritual Quote/Thing/Yeah, we'll label this as that: So, this is actually from a picture from an Ensign magazine a couple of months ago, and it was just part of the picture that was in the magazine, so I don't know what the whole thing looks like. But there's a picture entitled The Savior Walked on Water, by Walter Rane, that I thought was super cool this week. It's depicting when the Savior is reaching out to save Peter. Super cool. I really liked it. Favorite Funny Moment: You know you're in California when... everyone is so good at movie stuff. ; ) A member family that fed us this week showed us a video the scout group put together about a chapter in Alma, just before the war chapters officially start. It's the chapter where the one guy gets scalped. Anyway, I was expecting it to be some production sh...

Yo Ho a Bikers Life... I'm not going to finish that sentence. ;-)

Hey everyone! I hope you all are doing well! Thank you for your prayers and your support; I am so grateful for all of you! Here's this week's favorites: Favorite Quote: Jacob 4: 11-12. This one is too long for me to take the time to type out, so you all have to go look it up. I came across this scripture during personal study the other day and seriously had this "have I ever read this before in my life" moment because it was so good. The line that I do really love that I will type out is "for why not speak of the atonement of Christ." The Atonement of Jesus Christ is the greatest gift anyone could ever give, and our Heavenly Father gave it to us because He love us more than we can even begin to comprehend. He sent His son, because He wants us to be able to return home to Him. We have this amazing, wonderful blessing of a gift in our lives, and we are blessed to know about it. Though we don't fully understand the power of it, we know of it and we...

Fire update

We have had many asking about Jessica and the fires in her area.  This is a direct quote from the mission president's wife today at about 11 am.... Good Morning! It’s a beautiful day in the Great California San Fernando Mission. Fires are still burning but they are not affecting the missionaries or their work. All is well. Have a happy day! Love, Sister Henrie Thank you all for your concerns and thoughts about Jessica!  Keep up your prayers for her and all of the missionaries!

Urgent Care... But don't freak out.

Image
Hi All! Other than a couple of big events that happened this week, it was actually kind of a boring one. ; ) But the big stuff was interesting, so here we go: Sister Reynolds' leg has been hurting her since before I even got here. She thought it was just sore from bike life, but the other day, she noticed a GIANT bruise on the back of her leg where it hurts. It started hurting even more a few days after that, so we called up the mission nurse, who came over on Tuesday morning and thought it was probably fine until Sister Reynolds said it had been hurting for over a month. She took us straight to the Urgent Care. We were there for over three hours, and the only thing the doctor could say for sure was that she needs an MRI, so we'll be going in for that tomorrow. It seems to have been getting better the past few days, so hopefully it's not serious. Right now, all we know is that it could be anything from a pulled hamstring to cancer. I'm leaning more toward the p...
